Gift cards seem to be the best gift-giving. But working with them on line can be frustrating, especially if the directions and rules are vague, as is the case with all Target gift cards. You will see that your limit for the note (message, which is free) is 140 characters. That includes spaces, mind you. So, I composed a little note which I thought was well organized and looked nice. But no, it was not accepted, because it exceeded the character limit! I counted the letters and spaces, and it was only about 35 characters. As it turns out, you cannot use the “return” key. It must add the 100 remaining characters . . . Also, as a directive, it says that 140 characters is about one line. “One line” in the box for filling in the message accepts only about 25 characters. How does one know how long one line is?

So, when you fill in the message, do not use the “return” key!

The card obviously was fine, just disappointed in them getting you for $2.00 S&H to mail a card! It was the same size and weight as letters you can mail for .41 cents!

  3. I ordered two $25 gift cards from Target and had to pay $1.95 shipping and handling. When I complained to Target, they said it was for shipping, processing the order and a customized message – which I didn’t use! Every other gift card I ordered online this year was sent for FREE! Gas costs or no – Target is once again proving themselves to be less than customer friendly!

Since when do people have to pay shipping charges for gift cards? I can’t think of any other stores that do this. I guess I’ll just go to the store to buy it and save $1.95.

My son sent me a Target gift card. I took it to the store and upon checking out was informed by the cashier that the card was only good for online purchases. How embarrassing for me and how asinine for Target. I told my son about it and he had no idea that the card was restricted to online purchases. I’ll never use it, so it was a total waste and ripoff.
